^ you have to look at this.. an excellent guide to racing, that can also teach you useful principles for other map types.
preview of darkhearts racing guide:
Props to DarkHeart for making such an awesome guide on racing.
The best way to race is to register for UGN and get given the race passwords in the UGN-R channel.
Before your first race, read theRules of racing
how to be a good racer
The best start:
First of all I recommend you perfect the boost trick (taught in the new players section of this website)
At the start, there are two ways to get to the front of the pack.
a) Use the boost trick to perfection
b) Or boost fast out of the blocks and get in front of another team, take your finger off forwards and each time the team hits you from behind, you will be "knocked forwards".
c) Often one player from your team blocks the team next to you at the start, while the rest of your team can boost ahead and then block to let you back to the front.
Best blocking techniques:
Reverse into them, just as you hit them let go of backwards and you will be knocked forwards, then press forwards and boost away.
A great way to block someone when turning a corner is to crash into the wall of the corner. Your ship will bounce off the wall and hit the ship behind. If you do it right, your ship will then be knocked around the corner.
How to race as a team:
if you are stuck behind a player, and your team is ahead, when your team-mates go to block for you, make sure you move to the side, otherwise the player in front of you will be blocked into you, and you will get knocked back.
If you are being blocked, try to keep the player behind you close behind you. Every time you are blocked, you will push the player behind you back as well.
1v1 race:
The start is by far the most important. If the player you are up against is faster than you, you must attempt to block them at the very start.
